Privacy policy
PodPings collects as little as it can: your email address and the shows you track, so it can send you summaries. No ads, no analytics, and we never sell your data or share it with advertisers.
Who we are
PodPings is a free service, run from Bermuda, that emails summaries of new podcast episodes. We are responsible for your personal information (the “data controller”). Our privacy contact, and privacy officer under Bermuda's Personal Information Protection Act, can be reached at hello@podpings.com.
What we collect and why
- Your email address, to sign you in with a link and send you summaries.
- The shows you track, so we know which summaries to send you.
- A record of what we've sent you (which episode, when), so you never get the same summary twice and can see past ones on your Latest page.
- Show requests you type into the request form, linked to your account if you're signed in.
- Messages you send us through the contact form or by email (your email address, name if you give it, and the message), so we can reply. The contact form also stores a scrambled, one-way code made from your IP address, used only to limit how many messages one sender can send.
- A sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in. It's strictly necessary for the site to work, so there's no cookie banner. We use no analytics or advertising cookies.
We use your email and tracked shows to provide the service you asked for. For UK and EU users, that is our legal basis under the GDPR (performing our agreement with you). We use contact messages to answer you, which is in both our interests.
Who else handles it
We use a small number of providers to run PodPings. They process data only on our instructions:
- Supabase: our database and sign-in system. Your data is stored in its West US (Oregon) region.
- Resend: sends our emails, including sign-in links, summaries, and forwarded contact messages.
- Vercel: hosts the website.
Summaries are written by AI models (Google Gemini, and Groq for transcription). They receive podcast audio and transcripts only, never your email address or anything else about you.
Where your data goes
Your data is stored in the United States. If you're in the UK or EU, that means it's transferred outside those regions. Our providers protect those transfers with standard contractual clauses approved for that purpose.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information (email, tracked shows, and what we've sent you) until you ask us to delete it. Unsubscribing stops the emails but doesn't delete your account. To delete everything, email hello@podpings.com and we'll do it within 30 days. We keep contact messages and show requests only as long as we need to deal with them.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, get a copy, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. Email hello@podpings.com and we'll respond within 30 days. It's free.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to Bermuda's Privacy Commissioner, the UK's Information Commissioner's Office, or, in the EU, the data protection authority where you live.
Children
PodPings isn't meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your data, we'll email you before it takes effect.
